Book Donations Change Local Lives

March 3, 2007

Forget the can of tuna. With just $15, you can let marginalized people in Kamloops tap into

  • $900/mo in longterm disability benefits
  • a $40/mo diet allowance
  • up to $225/month (if living with a “wasting” illness, like AIDS)
  • secure housing
  • affordable counselling
  • free legal support
  • and much more

Sound too amazing to be true? Check out what book users have said.

This project was started after the author struggled through poverty herself. Debilitated by multiple food allergies, food banks and soup kitchens not only did not help, they made things worse. Connections to a disability pension, nutritional allowances, and more made it possible to turn her life around. “Most marginalized people in Kamloops are eligible for effective supports,” notes Skylark Disraeli, the project’s founder. “The problem is that to get support, you first have to know it exists. That’s where the book comes in –and the results in under one year have been phenomenal.”

For every $15 donated, Save Money Kamloops will place a copy with an agency or individual with very low income. Last year, 220 copies were sponsored for clients of the Y Women’s Shelter, the Food Bank, White Buffalo Aboriginal Health Society and Resource Centre, and more.

Indeed, forget the can of food. Give the gift of longterm financial, emotional and physical well-being. To donate, click here.

Personal copies are available for $20 at At Second Glance Books and Cost Savers. Discounts also available to those purchasing six or more.

The book is printed on 100% post-consumer recycled content from Frogfile.
