Poverty in Canada : Speak by Feb 11
February 6, 2008
The Federal Government has opened online consultations for the Federal Budget, offering individuals and organizations a chance to identify priorities for the 2008 budget by going to http://www.fin.gc.ca/activty/consult/prebud08_e.html before February 11th.
Now is your opportunity to urge the Conservative government to implement a poverty reduction plan with targets and timelines that includes:
- increasing the Working Income Tax Benefit to $2,400 per year for workers in households with incomes between $4,800 and $21,500;
- increasing the child tax benefit to $5,000 per child;
- developing a national affordable housing strategy with long-term funding that will create at least 20,000 new affordable units per year;
- restoring and increasing sustained federal funding to the provinces and territories to improve and expanding child care services;
- removing the two-percent cap on annual increases to funding for First Nations programs.
Thank you for taking action!
